FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
What does Storm Internet do?
Storm Internet provides internet services to both residential and commercial clients all over north-eastern Ontario. Our passion is bringing internet and faster speeds to under-served regions in rural Ontario.
We also provide solutions such as Wi-Fi (both indoor and outdoor), web hosting, surveillance cameras, co-location, and more.
When is tech support available?
Technical support is available by telephone and email: Monday – Friday from 8am-8pm and weekends from 10am-2pm.
Should I call or email tech support?
Before you contact us, have you tried our self-serve portal? It offers several features that go beyond just the basics of payments and invoices, such as scheduling service suspensions and requesting service upgrades.
If our self-serve portal did not meet your needs, you can get in contact with us through our customer support page.
You should call support when you’re having trouble with your internet connection. Before you do, try unplugging your modem or router for 10 seconds, plug it back in, wait about one minute for it to reconnect to your computer, and then test out a web page. Before calling, make sure you are home and have access to your hardware in order to help troubleshoot the problem.
For most other issues, opening a new support ticket is recommended.
Do I have to sign a contract? What if I want to cancel?
Storm always offers a no-contract option. All we ask is that you abide by our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy. However, in order to take advantage of promotional pricing and some services, you must sign a contract. And while we would hate to lose you as a client, you can always cancel, subject to the terms and conditions you agreed to when you signed up for service.
What if I am going to be away? How should I deal with my dormant connection?
For Wireless, DSL and Fibre connections, we offer temporary service suspensions. You can schedule this yourself through our customer portal by navigating to My Services and clicking on ‘Suspend’ for the applicable internet service.
DSL suspensions require a charge of $19.95/month to keep your line active. Alternatively you may disconnect your DSL service and reactivate it upon your return. Please note:
- If you are using a grandfathered service or package, you will need to select a currently offered package when re-activating your account. Once cancelled, a grandfathered package cannot be re-activated.
- Full activation fees apply to all re-activated accounts.
- Email service can be maintained separately for $5+HST per month.
- Due to capacity limitations and demand, it may not be possible to return as a Storm Internet DSL customer.
How can I access my @storm.ca email address with ___________ app?
To integrate your @storm.ca email address into an email application of your choosing (e.g. Thunderbird, Outlook, Gmail, etc.) you can follow our email setup guide.
How do I connect to the internet with my new Wireless or DSL connection?
Our Wireless and DSL connections utilize a PPPoE connection type, which requires a username and password (provided by Storm). Please see the “Connecting to the internet” section of our router setup guide for more details.
How do I set up WiFi in my house?
