Celebrating 25 Years of Strong Connections

The past 16 months have been a time that everyone will remember. For Storm, 2021 has brought on some new and exciting projects. It’s also the year we are celebrating our 25th anniversary!

Opening its doors in June of 1996, founded by four local businessmen, including Herb Hartwig, who remains with the company today as our CTO, Storm has had success in the industry, providing high-speed internet to Ottawa and the surrounding area. In 2003, the ownership changed, and Storm was purchased by two local businessmen, Charles Walther and Birket Foster. In April 2020, Charles Walther chose to retire, selling his interest in Storm to Birket,

who now takes on the role of Chairman and CEO (Chief Enablement Officer) where he continues to help Storm grow its commercial and residential line of business. With nearly 50 employees, we are proud to say that Storm is continuing to grow.

Support calls have always been handled by local Storm employees, and not outsourced overseas. Storm’s professionally qualified and trained technicians work day-in-day-out to give all of our customers a 99.9% uptime guarantee, using state-of-the-art technology to ensure your connection is never lost and all inquiries are addressed. Braving the scorching hot summers and freezing cold Canadian winters, our technicians (and the rest of the Storm team) are dedicated to providing you with the ultimate customer service.

Over the years, Storm has played a large role in keeping our communities connected. Storm has provided internet services to many local festivals, fairs, and other events, including Ottawa’sRBC Bluesfest (one of Canada’s fastest growing outdoor music festivals), Ottawa Folk Fest, Hope Volleyball, Fringe, the RCGT Park Baseball Stadium (home of the Ottawa Titans), and much more. As things open up, we’re helping with the Van Gogh Exhibit at the Aberdeen Pavilion. It’s our first event there in 16 months – take a look! Events are finally starting to come back!

As mentioned before, the company is continuing to grow and expand its networks. We are expanding our networks in the Ottawa and surrounding area, including townships such as Westport, Maberly, and Merrickville. Our most recent project includes expanding our Fibre Network in the Clayton area. This project is currently on-going and is expected to be completed by November 2021 and will connect about 200 homes.

What’s New with Storm?

Stay tuned — we have a new website in the making! There will be new features available, including an outages page. If there are ever any outages in any of the networks, it will be available for everyone to see.

From our family to yours, we wish to thank you for your continued support throughout the past 25 years of operation. We’re tremendously proud to continue to provide high-speed internet connections to homes and businesses across Eastern Ontario.

Make sure to keep an eye out for what we have in store for the next 25!

The Fibre Expansion Project is Well on its Way!

One week of the Fibre Expansion Project in Clayton has already passed and we are on to week two! But first, here’s a recap of the project:

  • Construction started on Ramsay Concession 3C on Monday, July 5th.
  • Approximately 1.2 km of conduit has been trenched and is ready for the main Fibre infrastructure to be installed.
  • Anticipated end date for this section is in August.

Week number one was a busy one for all those involved. Trenching started to place the conduit into the ground, with a total of 1174 m completed. Now that we’ve finished trenching, road clean-up will begin. Installing couplers is the next step before feeding fibre through the conduit.

The anticipated completion of Ramsay Concession 3C is the end of August. Once completed we can begin the process of feeding fibre to homes.

The next phase of the project will be on Tatlock Road from Short Street to Galbraith Road.

Are you wondering if you will be able to have a fibre network connection at your home? For more information, please contact: Jason Riddick, Residential Sales Manager, jriddick@corp.storm.ca

We’re Hiring!

We are Expanding our Fibre Network in Clayton!

It’s July, and that means our project on expanding Fibre to Clayton has begun!

On the morning of Monday, July 5th, construction began on Ramsay Concession 3C in Clayton. The whole project will allow for an additional 198 homes to receive high-speed internet access with FTTH (Fibre to the Home). Community members will benefit from having access to reliable, high-speed internet, allowing them to work from home, connect with family and friends online, shop online, and watch their favourite Netflix shows.

This is a project that’s been evolving over the past two years. This phase of the project will add approximately 30km of fibre passing 198 homes. We are delivering an infrastructure capable of serving every home with full internet access at the speed of their choice, including 50/50 (that’s 50 megabits down and 50 megabits up).

During the coming weeks, Storm Internet will continue to work on delivering FTTH to the community. Work on the project is expected to be completed in November, 2021. We will be publishing a schedule for anyone in the area to refer to. We want to make sure you are able to plan ahead for your commute and keep our workers safe.

If you order your connection while we are on your street, the special for hooking you up is applicable. To fill in an application form, click here.

The Connect Lanark program is available to qualifying applicants, receiving a one-time grant of up to $2,000 to install any necessary infrastructure to access reliable broadband internet. To learn more about the Connect Lanark program, click here.

An important Weather Tip From Storm

When you know a lightening storm is looming, keep your modem/router and other electronics safe by turning them off, and unplugging them from the wall.

A direct lightening strike could send a surge of electricity through household wiring, destroying electronic devices and circuits. Unplugging is the best way to ensure that your device is not damaged during an electrical storm, thereby preventing internet downtime resulting from an avoidable repair.

We wish everyone a safe and happy August long weekend!
